Mutagenesis

Living cells follow a set of rules and programed sequences in order to replicate and grow. However, when this program is disrupted a multitude of unexpected changes can occur. Sometimes beneficial, sometimes destructive. In a similar way, embroideries are traditionally produced in a symmetrical or highly ordered way; they create patterns by adhering to a prescribed system. Replicating embroidery with wire demonstrates how the patterns, and any changes, can become permanent and fixed, an adapted, mutated form that is fundamentally different to its intended purpose.
